Mari Keto makes objects.
Her works are objects before anything else. This is her art.
The works are physical things often with a very high degree
of craftsmanship. One clearly senses that Ketos art has strong
roots in the jeweller tradition, within which Ketos is classically
trained.
The level of craftsmanship in Ketos works
seem to carry significance in itself. Craftsmanship becomes
a sign of insight – as marker of invested meaning. In
the presence of one of Ketos objects one has the distinct
feeling that the wonderings about our contemporary culture,
our heroes and the darker sides of both are hammered into
the precious metals, and embedded in the stones.
They are objects of wonder.
